Daniel Johnston’s journey began as a 14 year old draft pick for the Portland Winter Hawks of the Western Hockey League. The Winterhawks coaches preached a “ Be a Pro Mentality” that stuck with him for the rest of his career. Daniel dedicated his time on the ice developing his skills, training in the gym, and studying the top NHLer’s game tape. His experiences as a rookie in the WHL included a weekly development plan with coach, constant game tape breakdowns, skill work for every on ice session, and a mindset shift to focusing on improving every day, and keeping what is important in perspective. Daniel felt that season was most crucial for his development in to becoming a professional.
After a career cut short due to injury, he partnered with Vancouver based Kinesiologist and Biomechanics specialist , Jason Yee the founder of the Downhill Skating System, the very first Biomechanics development approach to hockey. Daniel is currently a level 3 coach for the Downhill Skating System and teaches the mechanics of the top players in the NHL. This expertise, combined with 10 years as a player in major junior and pro, plus the accumulated knowledge acquired from coaches throughout his career, including 5 NHL coaches, has driven him to provide committed players the leading edge techniques and personalized development they need to achieve their hockey goals. Daniel believes that individual design programs are the only way that a player can fulfill their potential in hockey. Daniel provides players the ability to have that professional personalized development experience.
